May 2024 Learning Forum at the University of Toronto
Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development

A Minerva Learning Forum was held at the University of Toronto with Faculty of Engineering personnel from various universities and colleges in Ontario. The theme of this first Minerva Forum since the pandemic was focused on Enhancing the Culture of Safety Education within Engineering. Dr. Dawn Kilkenny, Vice Dean Engineering at the University of Toronto, provided opening remarks and was followed by Dr. Joel Moody, Chief Prevention Officer with the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Training, Immigration and Skills Development. Speakers from Minerva Canada, Modern Niagara, the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers and professors and grad students from universities, colleges in attendance provided their perspectives on various issues and teaching resources available to advance engineering education in Health and Safety.

Minerva panelists at 2022 CEEA conference

Minerva Canada hosted a panel discussion at the June 21, 2022 Canadian Engineering Education Association conference held at York University, Toronto. Representatives from the University of Toronto, Ontario Tech University, George Brown College and Canada Post participated in a panel discussion facilitated by Minerva’s Vice President to discuss how Minerva’s 28 online Health and Safety modules are being used by their students and employees. 2018 Minerva-Lambton College Learning Forum
Lambton Forum
A Minerva- Lambton College Learning Forum was held on May 9th in Sarnia, Ontario and attracted over 60 participants from academia, industry, government the City of Sarnia and various professional associations. The President of Lambton College and the Mayor of Sarnia made the introductions to the Forum. This was followed by presentations from three of Minerva’s long-standing sponsors – Imperial Oil, the Ontario Ministry of Labour and CF Industries. Minerva’s academic partners from the University of Toronto discussed Minerva’s Teaching Modules and its proposed new online certificate program. The day concluded with a panel discussion of ways to integrate Health and Safety into the curriculum using Minerva’s educational materials.

The 2017 Forums and workshop attracted over 275 engineering, business professors and over 50 participants from industry, government, academia and health and safety associations. The 2017 Learning Forums showcased many of Minerva’s new Teaching Modules now found on this website. Like with previous Forums, the Forums promoted more awareness of the importance for health and safety management education and the availability of Minerva’s teaching resources so that it’s more included in the curricula. The Forums included panel discussions among Minerva’s stakeholders on what is needed for Health and Safety in the curricula. They also heard from past graduates on why they see the need for more H&S education.
