Program Overview
Minerva’s Health and Safety certificate e-Learning program features nine online courses, comprising a total of 31 modules. These courses and modules are available to any university, college, or organization that signs a licensing agreement with Minerva, or to individuals signing up through the Bluedrop Skills Pass platform. By year end 2025, over 28,000 post-secondary students and company employees across Canada will have accessed one or more of the 31 modules, with overwhelmingly positive feedback received to date.
The program has been designed to equip students and professionals from diverse industries with a comprehensive understanding of health and safety concepts. Course content has been meticulously developed through Minerva’s Teaching Modules and case studies, reviewed by academic and industry professionals, and designed by experts from the University of Fredericton and Bluedrop ISM.

- Health and Safety for Practitioners – Level 1 Basic course. Duration 22-27 hours.
The following 10 modules and topics are covered in this course: Introduction to Health and Safety, Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Management, Legislation Codes and Standards, Mental Health in the Workplace, Incident Investigation, Incorporating Safety into Design, Business Case for Safety, Professional Ethics and Conduct and Employee Engagement, Effective Committees. - Health and Safety for Practitioners – Level 2 Advanced course. Duration 25-30 hours.
The following 11 modules and topics are covered in this course: Leadership and Management Systems, Hazard Identification Part 2, Risk Assessment and Hazard Control Part 2, Codes, Standards and Regulations Part 2, Human Factors, Crisis and Risk Communications, Health and Wellness, Management of Change, Managing Excellence in Health and Safety, Effective Communications, Process Safety Management. - Health and Safety for Managers, Supervisors – Level 1 Basic course. Duration 20-25 hours.
The following 9 modules and topics are included in this course: Introduction to Health and Safety, Hazard and Risk Controls, Legislation Codes and Standards, Mental Health in the Workplace, Leadership and Management Systems, Incident Investigation, Business Case for Safety, Management of Change and Effective Communications. - Health and Safety for Managers, Supervisors – Level 2 Advanced course. Duration 15-20 hours.
The following 7 modules and topics are covered in this course: Professional Ethics and Conduct, Human Factors, Incorporating Safety into Design, Health and Wellness, Crisis and Risk Communication, Managing Excellence in Health and Safety and Employee Engagement, Effective Committees. - Introduction to Health and Safety Fundamentals. Duration 18-23 hours.
The following 9 modules and topics are addressed in this course: Introduction to Health and Safety, Hazard and Risk Controls, Risk Assessment and Management, Mental Health in the Workplace and Academia, Leadership and Management Systems, Business Case for Safety, Management of Change, Health and Wellness, Managing Excellence in Health and Safety. - Course 100 available for academia and others. Duration 11-14 hours.
The following 6 modules and topics are covered in this course: Introduction to Health and Safety, Hazard and Risk Controls, Electrical Hazards and Controls, Fire Hazards and Controls, Height Hazards and Controls, and Lab Hazards and Controls. - Course 200 available for academia and others. Duration 13-16 hours.
The following 7 modules and topics are covered in this course: Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Management, Legislation, Codes and Standards, Mental Health in the Workplace and Academia, Leadership and Management Systems, Incident Investigation, and Professional Engineering Ethics. - Course 300 available for academia and others – continuation of Course 200. Duration 14-18 hours.
The following 7 modules and topics are covered in this course: Risk Assessment and Hazard Control, Codes, Standards and Regulations Overview, Incorporating Safety into Engineering Design, Human Factors, The Business Case for Safety: The Role of Engineers and Leaders, and Applying Professional Engineering Ethics. - Course 400 available for academia and others – discipline specific. Duration 15-19 hours.
The following 8 modules and topics are covered in this course: Process Safety Management, Electrical Safety, Radiation Health and Safety, Robotics Safety, Risk and Crisis Communications, Health and Wellness, Management of Change, and Managing Health and Safety Excellence.
How to Access the Courses
Participants can access the courses in one of two convenient ways:
- Bluedrop Skills Pass Platform
Create an account on the Minerva Storefront (show link) or if a member of Health and Safety Professionals Canada, on the HSPC Storefront (show link) The storefront includes all nine courses, that is, Courses 100,200,300,400, an introductory course and four newly developed courses (basic and advanced) for either managers or safety practitioners. Completing any course will earn participants a certificate. - University/College LMS
A licensing agreement is needed to have Minerva Scorm files with all 31 modules and Courses 100-400 downloaded directly onto a university or college’s Learning Management System LMS). Schools determine which courses, modules will be assigned to their students and when certificates will be issued.
What are the costs?
- For Universities and Colleges
Universities and colleges accessing Minerva’s online courses and modules on their own LMS will have licensing fees that range from 5-10 dollars per student per year. Fees depend on the total number of students accessing one or more of the 31 modules with a minimum annual fee of $4,000. - For Individuals
For individuals accessing the courses on the Minerva storefront, regular fees will range from $475 to $675 per course. We understand the importance of accessibility and offer discounts for groups of employees, as well as for full-time or part-time students. Additionally, financial sponsors of Minerva Canada can provide select employees with complimentary access to the courses, fostering a culture of continuous learning. Also, as a Minerva partner, HSPC members enjoy a discount on all courses, and those interested in registering should contact helpdesk@healthsafetypros.ca to receive their exclusive discount code. Non-HSPC members are also welcome to enroll.
